Welcome to StartThrottle, heres my story.

Most people take walking for granted. I used to be one of them.

It was just another day. I was going for a scenic ride — nothing wild, just clearing my head. Then, in one moment, everything changed.

A car ahead of me slammed the brakes hard, trying to make a last-second turn around a corner. I didn’t even see it coming. There was no time to react, and no space to avoid it. I landed in a gutter — with the bike, broken, beside me.

I remember laying there, paralysed. The pain, the confusion, the fear… I could feel myself fading in and out of consciousness. Getting pulled out of the gutter was one of the most painful moments of my life.

I was airlifted to hospital. That part is a blur. What came after — that was the real fight.

My body was torn up. My hip bone had gone straight through my pelvis. I went through multiple surgeries. Got a metal hip replacement. But I also lost the nerves in my foot. Now I’ve had to learn how to walk again without being able to properly use it.

It was traumatic. Not just physically — but mentally.
The days in hospital dragged. The nights were worse.
The nerve pain. The frustration. The questions in my head:

Will I ride again?
Will I walk right again?
Will I even feel like me again?

But something inside me refused to let go. I kept holding onto bikes. Riding. That throttle. That feeling of being free.

So I started rebuilding. Slowly.

Rehab, physio, strength work. I watched rider content, studied bikes, gear, performance — anything that kept me connected to the thing I love most. I’m still doing that now. Still healing. Still learning.

And that’s why I built StartThrottle.

Not as a flashy blog or business.
But as a place to share the journey.
To teach others what I’ve learned.
To give back.
To help someone else feel less alone on their road to recovery.

I was wearing full leathers that day. Boots. Gloves. A proper helmet. That gear saved my life. And if sharing what I know can help someone else — then it’s all worth it.

If you love bikes… if you’re just getting started… if you’re recovering from something tough — this space is for you.

Welcome to StartThrottle.
Let’s ride again.
